Presented by Bayerischer Rundfunk, Bayern 1 has been on the air since 1949, and is one of the oldest radio stations in the country. The station offers a number of specialized programs, including a music and sporting show, a weather and traffic news service and a regional magazine. Since launching its new digital channel in February 2015, the station has added a number of new features to its digital roster, including a 24-hour-a-day programming schedule. The station also makes use of DAB+, the latest digital radio technology from Deutsche Telekom. Aside from its terrestrial and satellite broadcasts, the station also makes use of various digital cable networks. The station is based in Deukom, but broadcasts in various parts of the Bavarian region.
In terms of content, Bayern 1's programming schedule consists of several mini-programmes, including an evening programme aimed at young and old, a sporting and entertainment show, and a news and weather service. It also provides coverage of local news in various parts of the state, such as in the Bavarian capital, München. The station also operates its own social media channels, such as its Facebook page, which offers an extensive collection of station information. Currently, the station boasts over three million listeners.
In addition to its standard digital and FM frequencies, the station has also branched out into new digital media formats, such as DAB+ in South Tyrol and DVB-S in Upper Bavaria. The station is also home to the world's largest music database, comprising over a million songs.
